a web of words swarming her brain
her famished stomach craving a grain
worry creasing her agonized brows
never again! she took a silent vow

sleep deprived she walked the room
dreary eyes sensing impending doom
sitting on the edge; her insides screamed
a chance miracle her only dream.

it inched closer as the clock struck nine
sending chilled shivers down her stiff spine
the bile rose high and her mouth ran dry
the little girl in her just wanted to cry

clammy fists clenched in disbelief
smarmy toes wiggled; seeking relief
trembling fingers leafed through the sham
the desolate paper that was her exam.
